In 1981, when waterbeds and futons were the hip new furnishings, Mark Valone had a vision for something different. He wanted to create furniture that combined forward thinking innovation with the comfort, safety, durability, and affordability of American classics. So, Mark did what entrepreneurs do. He created AFI Furnishings and began designing and manufacturing timeless furnishings that could be sustainable and affordable for everyone.
More than 40 years later, AFI Furnishings is a global leader in safe, sustainably sourced home furnishings. Mark continues as Chief Designer, guiding our team as we continue to push innovative furniture design in exciting new directions. Guided by ingenuity and built on sustainability, our designs are executed by specialty builders around the world. All materials are thoroughly inspected for quality at our warehouse in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, before making their way to your home in the form of comfortable, sustainable furniture that’s built to last a lifetime.

Green Facilities
In 2018, AFI Furnishings purchased and renovated an empty 277,000 square foot former tool factory to create our corporate headquarters and lead distribution center in South Deerfield, Massachusetts.
As we have with our other western Massachusetts facilities—including a dilapidated plastics factory and a long-vacant textiles factory—AFI Furnishing’s has implemented the following sustainable upgrades and improvements:
Modernized HVAC systems.
Maintenance of surrounding greenspace
Installation of motion-activated LED light systems and other energy efficient fixtures
Removal of all hazardous materials.
With Innovation Comes Expansion
In 2023, we are excited to be opening a new warehouse in Waynesboro, Georgia that will offer these same sustainable upgrades & improvements.

As a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and Forest Stewardship Council, AFI Furnishings is committed in our efforts toward sustainability and environmental responsibility through the production of eco-friendly furnishings.
Packaging Innovation
AFI Furnishings is invested in minimal, sustainable packaging solutions, including:
Biodegradable plastics
Recycled cartons
Ecofriendly padding
Reduced Styrofoam and non-biodegradable content.
Orders are individually assessed by destination and then packed with only the required amount of material to keep them safe in transit.
In addition to being eco-friendly, our focused, minimal packaging efforts increase efficiency and lower production costs, proving that well-designed, sustainably sourced furnishings can be affordable and accessible to everyone.

At AFI Furnishings, we believe that global impact starts at home, and are deeply invested in helping our community grow.
In addition to beautifying and upgrading several local facilities and providing abundant employment opportunities, AFI Furnishings has a long a history of strong support of local organizations and charities, including the Kestrel Land Trust, Soldier On, UMass Amherst, South County Senior Center, Food Bank of Wester MA, Not Bread Alone and the Springfield Rescue Mission.
On a national and global level, we also contribute to numerous nonprofits and NGOs including: The World Wildlife Federation, American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project, American Heart Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, ASPCA, The Jimmy Fund/ Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Alzheimer’s Association, & the Special Olympics.
